The members of the Sondelle string quartet are graduates of the NSW State Conservatorium of Music and formed their friendships while studying there. Now performing professionally in Sydney, each of them has at least ten years experience playing for functions in small chamber ensembles and has also held casual or full time positions with the major professional orchestras and professional shows in Sydney. They have a huge repertoire of exquisite classical music, including many famous themes and works by the great composers, such as Bach, Haydn and Mozart.

The Sondelle Quartet consists of flute, violin, viola and cello, making use of the extensive string quartet repertoire but adding the beautiful sound of the flute, which blends so well with the string instruments.

The quartet plays all the famous works from the string quartet repertoire, from Baroque and Classical styles to Romantic and 20th Century works, as well as many works written especially for flute and strings. Over many years, we have built up an impressive collection of pop songs, love songs, TV and movie themes, show tunes and light jazz. For specifics see our full repertoire list. If we do not have that special piece of music you’re looking for, there may be an existing edition that we can buy or we can make an arrangement (re-write the music for our combination of instruments) for you.

String Quintet

With the additional double bass, the quartet becomes a quintet with a great selection of lighter music, such as Venetian waltzes, jazz, popular songs, Joplin & Gashing, film and show songs and '30s dance band music. For $100 extra why not have the quintet play for the final hour of the booking?

String Trio

The Sondelle String Trio consists of Flute, Violin (or Viola) and Cello and is always a very popular choice. The String trio is the longest established of the Sondelle groups.

Flute & Guitar

These two very popular instruments blend beautifully to become a charming ensemble, which is ideal for smaller functions. Access to a power point is required for amplification of the guitar (where this is a problem batteries can be used).

In any line up, the Sondelle String Quartet is a beautiful additon to a range of special events.
