The playing is of the highest order and the music a creative mixture of new works, unique reimaginings of classical works and concert arrangements songs by the likes of Gershwin and Ellington. The result is passionate, intense, complex and urbane.
This is not a 'classical meets jazz', or 'cross-over' venture, but music which draws from myriad sources in order to create a completely personal and idiosyncratic approach for which no peer or template exists. The Chindamo/Black ethos is to present premiere performances of new music.
As a metaphor for a perfect world, this duo subscribes to a musical ideal where no prejudice is harboured and categorization and glib labels eschewed.
