His love for music then drove him towards more electronic sounds during the early nineties. After meeting Voiteck who introduced him to underground techno, his vision for the future was sealed.
Buying equipment to set up his studio he also began his dj career spinning everything from jazz/funk, break beats to minimal techno/electro and house. The diverse nature of his style led to quick recognition with residencies at some of Melbourne’s most cutting edge clubs (Lounge, Revolver) moving on to raves and smaller underground parties.
When Truck Musik was established in late 1995, Boogs joined forces with Voiteck to start their own club night called Bedroom Research to pursue what they saw as the future of music. Although it only ran for 8 months they developed their own audience and sound enabling an output for their unique style.
In the late nineties they decided to take their sound to the world embarking on a 3-month tour of the U.S.A and Canada playing in such cities as Chicago, Detroit, L.A., San Francisco, Toronto and Hamilton.
Upon returning to Melbourne DJ Boogs started his own club night Saturdays @ Lounge where the music policy was robot soul. In its first year the club played host to internationals such as: Common Factor, Herbert, I-Cube, Gilb'r, Adam Freeland, Freq Nasty and American DMC Champ P-Trix. Boogs held this residency for a legendary 16 years only recently finishing up as the Lounge celebrated it’s 20th Birthday.
You will now find Boogs at Poison Apple Saturdays from 1.30-3am each week.
Then defying normal sleeping patterns & exhaustion limits, it’s straight onto Sundays @ Revolver, for a double Boogs whammy; 4 hours in the morning & 4 hours again later that night; his residency since 2001. He has brought a new vibe and style to the recovery set and often you will find it’s “Full House” when he is on the decks whether it be 11am or 11pm! Revolver Sundays is now an institution and you haven’t really been out unless you have ended up here to greet the day!
Melbourne street press labelled Boogs the “Local Blow Up of 2002” and the The Age Newspaper has profiled Boogs as the hippest & hottest DJ in Melbourne. He was polled as #22 in the first Technics inthemix50 - The Australian Top 50 DJ Poll 2004 & powered his way up to #12 in 2005.
In 2006, even despite his legendary lack of self-promotion, Boogs held onto the #12 spot of Australia's most popular DJs once again! He has featured in the top 20 in 2007/2008/2009 ITM50 polls and is considered to be in one of the top 5 DJ’s in Victoria.
2005 also saw the launch of Boogs first mix cd release ITM50 a double dose with Illya from Sydney. A great opportunity for Boogs to profile some of his old fav’s as well as his usual cutting edge choices. This was extremely well received and in 2007 Boogs was approached by Vinyl Pusher to mix a disc of the Vinyl Pusher Pure compilation. This mix cd is the highest selling compilation released by the label to date.
Boogs has also tried his hand at the studio with production work. He has dabbled on a few remixes with T-Rek, with releases to come
He is building on his national profile with regular gigs in Sydney and Adelaide. Also some explosive nights in Brisbane, Gold Coast & Noosa have seen requests coming in for a fast return. DJ Boogs is most impressive in a 3 deck set allowing him to mix it right up in his own ground breaking style that guarantees you will shake what ya mama gave ya…..
