Ben Winkelman studied at the Victorian College of the Arts with Paul Grabowsky and Mickey Tucker, and in New York with Sam Yahel, Harold Mabern and George Cables. He has released two CDs with his trio on the Jazzhead label, both to rave reviews; the firrst was nominated for a Bell award. The trio toured all of Australia in 2006 and 2007, played some of the major national jazz festivals, and was featured on ABC TV’s Sunday Arts program. Ben was a semi-finalist in the 2006 National Jazz Awards.
