Aleksandris Svencis is a tenor who is imposing in height (190cm tall) with a voice to match, who has recently moved to Melbourne from Sydney.

He started his singing career as a baritone, then moved up the register to produce a big, lyrical, romantic tenor voice likened by some to the great Jussi Bjorling from Sweden, who made his mark when most opera singers hailed from the Mediterranean rather than the Baltic.

Aleksandris received formal musical training at the Flinders St School of Music and the Elder Conservatorium in Adelaide, in addition to the New South Wales Conservatorium in Sydney.

He has also had private tuition under Karen Cummings, Jonathon Welsh and Maryleigh Hand, in Sydney and Jon Weaving in Melbourne.

Aleksandris also had a parallel career behind the scenes as a music producer, working with the ABC and freelance with artists of the calibre of Howard Shelley, James Morrison, Andras Schiff, and ABC orchestras.

He has released two recordings to date; ‘Love is...a State of Mind’ and ‘Con te Partiro’, along with NZ soprano Katherine Langford. A third recording is planned for late 2007.

Apart from private and corporate performances, Aleksandris has sung at many charity fundraisers including most recently at the Governor General’s pleasure at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron; for Christ Church School at The Plaza Ballroom, Melbourne and also the 55th Baltic Anniiversary fund raiser in Adelaide.

Aleksandris has also given formal recitals in Verona, New York, Los Angeles, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
