Rob Longstaff is an acoustic soloist, collaborator, avid hitchhiker and amateur street fighter whose musical stylings sit within a little known sub-genre he likes to describe as acoustic soul/funk.
2006 was a huge year for Rob with solo supports for Kate Ceberano, Martha Wainwright, acoustic sensations Rodrigo Y Gabriella, and a signing to Australia’s largest independent jazz label, Newmarket music who funded the creation of his new album, “They can’t help you with the ladies”. Rob also managed to squeeze in a two month tour of India and Africa performing for orphans in Mumbai, Chennai, Accra, Cotonou, Kinshasa and Addis Ababa.
A native of Melbourne, but with one foot planted firmly in Maleny, Queensland, Rob considers himself privileged to have worked with some of Melbourne’s finest musicians, notably, Savannah Blount (Tenor Saxophone), Fabrizio Giorgio (Drums), David Evans (Bass), Nick Wilkins (Trumpet), Andrew Pearson (Bass) and Hue Blanes(Keyboards).
