Tully the clown and Dame Elisabeth MurdochMurdoch Institute Children’s Research Fundraising Family Day - Cruden Farm February 2006

Music Theatre Australia was proud to be a contributing sponsor to the circus-themed family day at Cruden Farm.  We were able to provide a program of roving and feature circus acts who kept everyone entertained throughout the day. The tennis court and its natural grassy amphitheatre was transformed into a circus ring for the day and we presented two shows made up of acts such as The Rebound Acrobat from Circus Oz, Bowl Spinning from Tully Fedorowjtsch and wonderful comedy and music from The Great Roscoe who acted as MC for the day.

Around the grounds stilt walkers, jugglers, clowns and jazz musicians entertained the picnickers while our Fairy Face Painters were kept busy with countless little butterflies and blowflies wanting their faces transformed.

Over 1600 people attended the day and the Institute exceeded their expectations raisingover $70,000.

Pirates of the Volvo Ocean Race

Pirates at DocklandsPirates at Docklands

MTA in association with Pescanova, Disney and Events Australia recently produced a customized show that played to 1000 school children and VIP guests at the Melbourne Docklands with the Pirates of the Caribbean world touring yacht as a backdrop.

A cast of piratically-themed roving performers greeted everyone on arrival. With our client’s brief we created a complete script and characters that reflected the ‘pirate’ theme, as well as threading an ‘Australiana’ context through the material. The show kicked off with a traditional Indigenous welcome dance performed by members of the Wurundjeri dance troupe. A scurrilous MC ‘Captain Black’ played by David Gould kept the proceedings flowing as characters such as Steve and Irwin Crikey, Emu Nomads and Koalas, Aussie Tallstars, Bush Remnants and the sporty Lounge Brass Band kept everyone in stitches. A highlight was the appearance of The Warbles, the singing troupe that have been entertaining and delighting children through their work with The Song Room. They concluded the show singing songs from many nations and We are Australian

The client was thrilled with the end result which took two days to bump in and a day to bump out, finishing just before a mighty storm hit the docks, sending everyone flying for cover. Oh, it’s good to be a pirate!

With a cast of 12 very talented artists including guest artists Pot-Pourri, this special event was sponsored by Accredited Distributors and Cadbury Schweppes in association with Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism.  This is a new MTA production following on from the 2005 success of OperaCircus.Yarrawonga Chronicle described the show as "magnificent and spectatcular...the music and circus complemented each other impeccably...an outstanding success!", and commented that audience members said they enjoyed the show more than Pavarotti and The Three Tenors for its sheer entertainment value, warmth and talent on display!
