Mark Da Costa and The Black List are an explosive, high energy, live rock and roll band; a powerful quartet incorporating drums, bass, guitar and the charismatic Mark Da Costa on lead vocals.

The Black List was formed following Mark’s success in Australian Idol in late 2007. The band has already enjoyed resident gigs at some of Melbourne’s premier venues, including Crown Casino and the Melbourne Central Lion Hotel, and is now available for a range of private and community functions.

Mark Da Costa and The Black List have an extensive song list including classic rock anthems, eighties’ hits and current top 40 rock tunes. The performers believe (and are sure you’ll agree) that three things are vital for the success of any performance: top quality musicianship, a hot image and a highly interactive and exciting live show that will leave your audience screaming for more!

Mark Da Costa :

Mark exploded onto the Australian Idol series in 2007 not as an amateur but as an experienced front man. The season’s undisputed Rock God, Mark wowed the audience and judges with his wildcard performance of the Stevie Wright classic “Evie” and demonstrated his rare vocal abilities with Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love’. Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson commented that he was the season’s best performer and Kyle complained that the audience was screaming so enthusiastically he found it hard to hear. Prior to his appearance in the top 10 contestants, Mark had already sung countless gigs in the Sydney and Melbourne music scene. Mark is an unbelievable vocal powerhouse and demonstrates his love of the Rock genre in every performance he gives.

Aaron Laguda :

Starting at an early age, Aaron has worked as a guitarist professionally since age 15. Aaron has gigged extensively in the original and cover scene and is consequently one of Melbourne’s busiest working musicians. His stage energy and charisma are great assets to the band, involving and entertaining the audience. A talented guitarist and vocalist, Aaron has performed with a range of original bands and artists which include Nat Allison, The Dan Cassey Band, Rob Mills, Taxi Ride, Iris and Haunted Craft. His commercial acts include: Millennium Bug, Kartoon, X-Plode, Freeze, Andrew Hoskings & Coupe Deville, Rusty Brown and many others.

Toby Lang :

A seasoned player of Toby’s calibre is a significant addition to The Black List. Toby has been playing Drum kit professionally for over 20 years. Originally from Adelaide, he recently relocated to Melbourne in order to expand his musical career. Toby has an extensive resume including an Aria award, an APRA award and a reputation as one of Australia’s prominent session drummers. He has toured, recorded and performed with many of the statesmen of the Australian music industry. These include: Glen Shorrock, John Schumann, Russell Morris, Doc Neeson, Rob Hurst, and Ross Hannaford Brian Cadd and Bill Chambers. Toby currently plays as a member of The Audreys.

Tim Mathew :

A veteran Bassist, Tim has worked for over 20 years professionally. In that time Tim also obtained a Degree in Jazz Performance and a Postgraduate in Education. Tim has resided in Melbourne for the past 10 years, playing a diverse range of music and teaching Instrumental Studies for the Education Department.
