World Music available for hire, based in Victoria
JADIDA evokes the atmosphere of the bazaars of Cairo and Istanbul and combines it with the pulse of the West, creating music unlike anything you've heard or seen before. Together with dance maestro Josie Palermo, and art projections specially created by a Melbourne art historian, they are a group not to be missed!
Jadida was formed 13 years ago by a group of musicians who felt the need to express their diverse musical experiences in a fresh, new format that paid homage to the myriad cultures of the global music scene. In 2000 they released their debut CD titled "Gypsies in an Urban Desert", followed by a second CD called "World Confusion". Their exquisite musicianship coupled with an energetic stage presence charges the energy of any space they perform in.
Jadida performed at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, the Port Fairy Folk Festival, Arts Centre Melbourne, and a string of festivals including Apollo Bay Music Festival, Globe to Globe and Rhythms of Africa at Werribee Open Range Zoo before taking a few years off to have children, do further study overseas and work on different projects. The group, founded by Paul Holleman and Phil Gunter, got together again in 2013 with new members Paul Angas and Phil McGowan, and has kicked off with gigs at festivals and stages around Victoria.
"Jadida does what world leaders have failed to do - build bridges instead of borders that humans battle over. These classically trained musicians have brought together the sounds of our continents to create uplifting, inspirational music. Their music is addictive."
