Steve Arié, double bassist and vocalist, is one of Australia's finest jazz musicians. His musical versatility has earned him places with such Australian greats as Dale Barlow, Bernie McGann, DIG, Ten Part Invention, George Washingmachine, Wanderlust, Pardon Me Boys, Frank Bennett, Sydney Jazz Trio, Errol Buddle, Martin Plaza and Gyan.

"Singing bass players are common enough creatures in rock music, but they are rare as money in jazz. Sydney's Steve Arie not only sings and plays double bass, he eliminates all the middle men and women, and sings against his own solo accompaniment. To date his reputation has been built on his fine bass playing but he brings the seasoned jazz musician's feel for phrasing to the singing part, as well as an attractive voice."

John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald

Steve has had enormous experience and has toured both nationally and internationally with highlights including two performances at the prestigious Chicago Jazz Festival, The Hothouse Jazz Club Chicago, The Kennedy Centre for Performing Arts (USA), Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Scotland), Ruhrfestspiele (Germany), Queenstown Jazz Festival (New Zealand) and jazz and music festivals throughout Australia.

"Steve Arie is one of the great Australian musicians"

Steve Brien (James Morrison, Dale Barlow, Don Burrows, Giacomo Gates, John Mastrioanni), lecturer in jazz studies, Sydney Conservatorium of Music

The Bass and I brings together Steve's virtuosic double bass playing and cool vocal stylings to create a unique, intimate, sophisticated sound. The Bass and I presents a large repertoire from the jazz idiom. A huge variety of jazz standards and original compositions creatively arranged for bass and voice. Swinging, hip and cool!

"Arie's bass playing is excellent"

John McBeath, Weekend Australian
