David Smorgon, governor of the Sony Foundation, is a passionate and intelligent speaker, specialising in motivational events for both businesses and individuals.

His presentations include leadership topics such as developing a “winning” culture and team building, as well as inspirational presentations pertaining to success and overcoming obstacles. Given his career history, Smorgon also routinely speaks about the unique aspects of running a family business. Receiving consistently positive feedback from every client he speaks for, Smorgon’s ideas on leadership and his ability to translate that knowledge into an informational and relevant presentation is truly astounding.

For 25 years, this businessman worked as the senior executive and Director of his self-started company Smorgon Consolidated Industries. In 1997, he became the inaugural Chairman of the Family Business Australia organisation, and his contributions to society and business were recognised in 2000 when he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.

A lover of sports, David Smorgon became the President of the Footscray Football Club in 1996, a position he still holds today. And, in 2008, David became the Ambassador for Ochre, an art auction of which the proceeds go towards funding research into Indigenous child health at Charles Darwin University’s Menzies School of Health Research. For all of his work, David was inducted into the Inaugural Hall of Fame of his school, Brighton Grammar School, specifically for his contributions to business, sports, and his philanthropic work.
